The Late-Winter Wellbeing Reset

Winter isn't over and the season can feel long. After months of shorter days and colder weather, you might notice changes in your mood, energy and motivation. You may feel more tired than usual, find it harder to get out of bed in the morning, or prefer staying indoors rather than socialising or being active.
For many people, these changes are a normal response to the season and will improve
as the days get longer and the weather warms up. We think of them as the “winter blues”, and we know these feelings are usually mild and temporary.
For some people, the winter slump might feel heavier and start to affect your work or relationships. If your mood doesn't improve with the warmer weather, it may be helpful to speak with a therapist. Seeking support early can help you better understand what you are experiencing and develop practical strategies to manage your mental health throughout winter and beyond.
In the meantime, there are simple strategies that might help for a late-winter wellbeing reset:
Get outside during the day: Even on cloudy days, spending time outdoors and getting natural light can help regulate your body’s internal clock and improve your mood. A short walk during the day can make a difference.
Keep moving: Whether it’s walking, yoga, going to the gym, or simply dancing at home, regular physical activity can help improve your mood, reduce stress, and boost energy levels.
Stay connected: It can be tempting to withdraw when it is cold, but maintaining connections with family and friends can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Maintain a consistent routine: Keeping regular sleep and mealtimes, eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated can all support your physical and mental wellbeing.
Be kind to yourself: Remember that it is okay if your energy levels aren’t the same as they are in summer. Try to be flexible with your expectations and make time for activities that help you to relax and recharge.
